About Friends of YAPS

Welcome to Friends of YAPS blog.

My name is Anna, I am the editor of YAPPY NEWS, the monthly newsletter of FOY (Friends of YAPS).   Each month I add the newsletter to the blog for you to download or it can be emailed.

FOY is a fundraising group which raises funds for YAPS (Young Animal Protection Society),  Smithfield Cairns.  The funds raised goes towards well needed items to help keep the place running and the dogs and cats happy and healthy.

During the week I have a casual job cleaning for the elderly under St John’s Community Care and the weekends I walk the beautiful dogs of YAPS.  This is my third year of walking dogs and I thoroughly enjoy it.  Each dog has it’s only little quirks and personality, some will not be overly affectionate and if you get one lick of appreciation, it means the world and you melt where as others cannot give you enough kisses of appreciation. You just feel the lurrrve of these beautiful souls who have ended up at YAPS due to one reason or another .. it could they went missing, ended up at the pound (no owners came forward) and YAPS rescued them from the pound, they were surrendered due to circumstance and well there are many other reasons. YAPS often get puppies dumped, pregnant mummy dogs and those who already have pups in tow.  These then go to foster care until old enough to reside at YAPS until they are adopted.

The staff of YAPS are awesome .. although the days can be taxing physically as well as mentally, they do love the dogs completely

Fundraising events like ‘high tea’ at one of the members home was a big hit recently.  Bbqs at the local hardware stores and many other events.  If you have some time that you can spare, come along to a committee meeting that occurs once a month or just put your name down to be on the email mailing list for upcoming events aswell as receiving a copy of YAPPY NEWS.

Thank you for reading

Anna

    Hi Anna
A few years ago I bought art at your fund raiser in a Palm Cove. I missed this year’s October auction. Will you be having another one soon? Alternatively, is there an artist willing to sell their paintings and donate the proceeds (or a proportion) to YAPS ?
